Stansbury Speaks...

You are correct. However, I would like to try sustained winning (at a level higher than CCG's 7 wins per year era) over a period of 5 years or so to see if perhaps that would move the needle a bit. At Tech, past performance is not an indicator of future performance. A 10 win season can be followed by a 4 win season. Too much variability imo to attract new fans.
You are correct sir! With pj Tech will not have 9 or 10 winning seasons consistently. This is because as he says , it takes 3 years to develope a QB for his TO. So he is willing to have 3 so/so seasons for that one big year.

I like CPJs personality, just not crazy about the 3O. I think stars are also important to attendance. I guess we have had JT5 recently, but we really miss a Joe, Goose, Dez, Calvin, JFN, Dwyer, etc. One guy throwing for 3000 yards brings in a lot more fans than 6 guys rushing for 500 yards.

Nevermind that our two best years under CPJ have both come under QBs with one year in the offense, and both had a significant setback in their third.

Nevermind that.

Thank you, saves me a lot of posting. 2003 & 2008 where anomalies somewhat in attendance. 2012 shows the importance of marquee opponents, but you have to have a combination of marquee opponents and favorable game times preferably combined with middle of the pack ACC opponent as the Thursday night game (aka not VPI). I don't see quite as much correlation with winning as I expected.

With the exception of 2012 and 2008 attendance seems more driven by kick time and opponent than any other factor.

That said winning obviously matters since 2016 isn't lower despite having 5 games prior to 3:30.

All in all a very mixed bag of data.

Consistency will fix fan interest issues. Simple as that. No one who barely cares about Tech football is going to care anymore because the shade of gold changed and adidas is our supplier. Since I started undergrad nearly twenty years ago we have not won consistently. We’ve barely even had back to back great seasons (maybe 08 and 09, and that’s a stretch). We backed up a historic 2014 with a total dud. We need to build momentum to get the casual fan interested. I think that is the bottom. No shade of gold, locker room reno, improved WiFi, etc is going to make any difference in reeling casual fans in.

Just go watch games on YouTube during the Reggie ball era. The place just looks more packed than it does now. What's the one constant from 2008 to now? CPJ. NO EXCITEMENT

Yeah, Chan was Mr. Excitement with those old man sweaters, vanilla offense, 7 win seasons and multiple Humanitarian Bowl appearances. It couldn't be because of other factors. (For the record, I respect Gailey plenty, but c'mon. You're going to make the argument that our attendance suffers because our coach lacks personality and you're going to reference the Gailey years to prove your case?)

No excitement you say?

Do you know what the chart below represents? I've left the axis titles off to make it more difficult for you.

THERE IS ZERO EXCITEMENT AROUND CPJ!!!!!!

Here's another one. I left the Y axis numbers on there as a hint. Some might call this a measure of "excitement."
