Paul Johnson interview

What do you guys think about the interview segment where CPJ said that he went to the training room to get some treatment on his back 2 weeks after he retired and they had already deactivated his key fob? He also said that it seemed like the players were told to give him the cold shoulder

Just shows how immature Collins was running things at GT. Not that we needed much more proof.

It is really crazy considering how CPJ was a retired head coach and most likely would have been happy to help out the new guy…

Too bad that guy was Collins and not Giff Smith or Key or literally anyone else in the industry.

Why doesn’t White count?

Portal has changed things.

All things equal Collins is a better recruiter than Johnson but once recruits found out he was a loser then it didn’t matter.

Key has built the correct kind of staff for success on and off the field.

Collins is not a good recruiter. Almost no one from the highly rated squad he initially scored was with the team by the time he was fired. And that was before NIL. Only Jeff Sims remained from the cream of that crop, and that cream had curdled.

Yeah the sentiment that GC was a good recruiter was a myth (at least for his time at Tech, idk enough about his other stops) built almost exclusively on the back of landing Gibbs - which is now generally considered to have been the work of Choice. His HS classes were remarkably similar to CPJs in terms of general talent (although GCs didn’t have the benefit of being good fits for a coherent scheme). He brought in some big names in the portal, but not many panned out. He also leaned on the portal way too hard.

I think he just couldn’t coach. Recruiting is his best asset, which he is probably slightly better than average. He’s a salesman. We were talented enough to be competitive. He just sucked that bad at coaching. The worst clock and in-game manager I’ve ever seen at this level. And his practices, accountability, and leadership were all jokes.

The 2020 class had Ivey, Gibbs, Sims, LaMiles Brooks, Jordan Williams. Those guys would be redshirt or COVID seniors this year.
But basically all that's left is Brooks and Williams out of that class. Meiguez is still around but he's played very little. Other than that, there's nothing to show for nearly two dozen signees out of the class Collins trumpeted so hard.

To be fair, it's hard to develop when you have a dj instead of a coach

All of those guys are good recruits and at least above average to what GT typically gets. Gibbs is as good a player as we ever get.

They figured out Collins didn’t know how to coach and left.

The Cover 3 guys hit this interview today and had a good laugh at the Minister of Mayhem. I had a good laugh as well.

I’m kinda tired of both past coaches. Ole stale and duffus
Same old same old on both sides

Hey man, it’s what we do. When you have hemorrhoids the size of bananas, pee 8 times a night, are overweight, constipated, bald, have sore feet, can’t see, can’t hear and have not had sex in 10 years, you need to bitch about something. Collins is our man.
