Very good report by Ryan Bass on GT\'s QBs

The astute Ryan Bass (Master B), writing for the Insiders, thinks Reggie Ball is the unquestioned QB leader going into the Fall. However, the reporter doesn't appear to be very high on any of the Tech QBs & doesn't seem to have been enthralled by anything he saw this past ST.
Very good piece covering all the QBs;

Yellow Jacket QBs going into Summer Camp

Interesting choice of words to describe the article Ace. I thought the article was pretty honest and indicated we have a soph QB who has more work to do and solid backups with more promise as they mature and continue to learn the position. With 2 sophs a QB/WR and a freshman what would you expect? You seem to be viewing it as negative. I think MasterB would characterize it as a work in progress.

NCJacket... when have you known GTAce not to spin it?

our QB situation is what it is...

We've got a young guy who has charisma and his teammates follow him. Unfortunately, he doesn't always know where he's going. So when the follow him, it isn't always clear where they are headed.

He will likely never be Joe Hamilton. But b/c he's black, mobile, charismatic and handed the reigns very early lots of folks just wants to put that label on him or project that level of expectations on him. And it isn't fair to him.

He is what he is. A young, hot head with lots of upside and a ton of work to do in the mental areas of the game.

If we get the Reggie of Auburn, UNC and NC State we'll be fine. But if we get the Reggie of Duke, Vandy (except for the Final 5 minutes of regulation and OT), FSU's 4th quarter, Clemson, UGA, and Tulsa we're sunk.

He may never be Joe Hamilton but if you remember Joe had some terrible games his FR year. Reggie has a long way to go before he is anywhere close to Joe but he is just a true FR so it is way too early to say he won't be as good.

Re: our QB situation is what it is...

He doesn't need to be Joe, but he needs to be more consistent than he was last year. Donnie Davis will do just fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Re: our QB situation is what it is...

Good point Ncjacket...I would rather use John Dewberry as a better example though...Donnie played under Oleary and the air em out system whereas Dewberry played under Curry and wasnt expected to win games but to not lose them...Sort of like Mauk this past year at Lsu...Our offense is similiar to Lsu...Ball control with the QB making the right decisions and playing smart...Under this kind of system the QB is not the central focus as opposed to Friegens or Spurrier type offenses...Imho...In any event we DONT need Ball to be another Hamilton to be successful with this Offense...
