Things are changing fast, and it is possible that in two years we will be left out in the cold.

But it's crazy to say that college football is officially dead when: 1) we played the unbeaten two time defending national champs to within one score; 2) Tech fans are the most excited they've been going into a season in a good six or seven years; and 3) there's a defined path to the playoff for the ACC champs for the first time ever.

Maybe college football is dying and in two years it really will be dead to us. But it's not dead now.

The two years thing is because this playoff format is only for 2 years. We won't know til later whether your #3 will hold true at all beyond that and if they do get rid of automatic bids for conference champs then this past seasons' events are fairly discouraging.

Anyone voting for ESPN is simply missing what has happened. ESPN has not given out $7-13 million contracts to HC’s, created a facilities arms race, etc. All ESPN, CBS, Fox and NBC have done is provide financial media agreements with conferences.

As you know, the draft and salary cap create the conditions for a level playing field. Not sure how a mechanism(s) could be implemented to help college football have more parity.

Then again, would the college football powers go along with things that would add parity? Seems that they are happy with the way things are and getting the bulk of the money.

Rozelle had a masterstroke getting the NFL owners to understand that a parity driven league makes everyone richer as it increases interest. Each team can turn things around quickly.

There are 32 NFL teams. Since 1999, 22 of them played in at least one superbowl.

So 70% of the NFL has at least played in the Superbowl since 1999. Those 22 teams are from 19 different states all over the country.

FBS
There are 133 teams in the FBS. That's 4 NFLs. Since 2000, however, only 18 different teams have finished in the top 2 final AP poll. That's 3 fewer teams than the NFL at 1/4 the size.

So only 14% of the FBS has finished in the top 2. Making matters worse, if you take the AP #1 and #2 teams since 2000 and assign each to a region of the country (S = South; M = Midwest; T = Texas; W = West), here are the total appearances in the top 2 by region:
S - 26
M- 4
T - 4
W - 4

So 86% of the FBS "locked out" of the chance for a trophy. 70% of the top two teams are from 5 Southern States and the other 30% are from 9 other states. So 70% of the 50 states have no representation in the top 2 over the last 23 years.

So ESPN who PAYS the ACC deal has “slanted the playing field” you say? I guess ESPN also destroyed the P12 and inflated the B1G who they will no longer broadcast? Just like ESPN has “slanted the basketball court” over the last 30 years towards the ACC, right? All notions are bad takes with no absolutely no proof.

Results on the field, attendance in the stands with great environments are all any network cares about.

It isn’t a problem for those at the top raking in donations and swimming in NIL $. The question becomes whether viewership goes down or has simply reached its peak and college football becomes just a regional sport with nearly half of the country tuning it out.

I’m not sure how you would achieve any sort of parity in college football nor do I think that those few schools at the top would go along with it.
