Most Overrated/Underrated GT players ever?

Underrated: Chan Gailey

I was one of the ones chasing him out of town too, but he left us with a hell of a team. There was more talent on that team than any since 1990.

I'd take Choice over Dwyer any day of the week

Disclaimer: both are Tech men and I would take either in a heart beat. But if I could only have one, with all due respect to 22, I’d have to go with Dwyer. His downhill speed was second to none and his lateral cuts were sick.

Kelly Rhino. Could have used some Kelly clones on special teams this year.

I'd go the other way on this one (overrated). Most GT fans consider him far more valuable than he actually was.

Dude was fearless and usually made the first guy miss. I’m sure he did but I don’t remember him ever fair catching a punt return.

To say he is overrated would be to imply he did not equal/ exceed your expectations.

What were yours for him?

Another definition is that the player was not as good or as bad as people seem to think they were.

I don't think Kelly is either over or underrated. He is pretty universally liked by fans because of his fearlessness and his last name. Oh, and this:

AT TECH: All-ACC return specialist and the leading punt returner in Tech history . . . Set school records with 1,135 punt return yards on 112 returns . . . Both figures rank second in ACC history to Ledel George of NC State (125 returns, 1,191 yards) . . . Had a chance to break George?s record of 1,191 yard but missed his final two games with a sprained foot . . . Broke the Tech record for career punt return yards formerly held by his father, Randy Rhino (749) . . . Over his last two seasons, he returned 93 punts for 962 yards (10.3-yard average)

Meh. The 2007 class was special but his other classes were quite mediocre. I'm glad we got rid of him when we did and brought someone in who could actually win with his players.

Not taking anything away from KR, but the 'halo' rule helped his numbers.

This is a weird thread. People are saying certain players are overrated when the consensus is that player wasn’t good. Who ever thought Francis Kallon was a good P5 football player?

Sackenshire media outlets.

Chappell Rhino never gets any love.

No mention of his special teams tackles? Dude was always making tackles on kickoff coverage.

Underrated: Demaryius Thomas

I think we all knew he was really good, but it wasn't until I saw him in the NFL and watched our other receivers fail to make the types of plays that he routinely made before I realized how good. Remember when we could just score TDs by doing this?

Underrated: Shaq Mason 2014 - no one knew how important he was in making the O work

Overrated: Shaq Mason 2015 - he was sorely missed, but the O collapse had other factors as well

Under-rated: Kerry Watkins. Guy had great hands and put up solid numbers but gets forgotten because he played during the same time Dez and Campbell did. The catch he made to upset Clemson in 2000 was legendary.

Over-rated: Stephen Hill. All speed, no hands.

Triggered. Thanks to your video, I re-watched the 2009 4th down drop for the first time in 8 years. DT had been such a beast that day (as the video amply demonstrates). That drop was so dang painful.

And I'd forgotten that we were down by 6 not 7 at the time.
