I know you cannot honestly rate a class until they have been on the field a couple of years, but it appears CG has gotten the hang of this recruiting stuff. I think he may have gotten enough student athletes in here to make us a better team.

I look at the schedule next year and I think it is brutal. Tell me where the wins are coming from?

9-4-04 SAMFORD
11-13-04 CONNECTICUT
11-27-04 at Georgia
TBA MIAMI FL
TBA VIRGINIA
TBA VIRGINIA TECH
TBA DUKE
TBA at Maryland
TBA at Clemson
TBA at North Carolina State
TBA at North Carolina

7 wins would be ok
8 wins would be good
9 wins would be the best coaching we have had in a long time

IMO

Think Chan has a plan that is worthy but do not see this as a brutal schedule. We trade Auburn for VT. Add Samford, a disgrace. UM for FSU. Uconn for Vandy. We should play a much more "brutal" schedule IMHO. It all boils down to the question are we willing to build a program capable of beating ugag. If so, the ACC will, for the most part, take care of itself.

UCONN will probably win the big east.....

and they DESTROYED a Wake team that destroyed Clem's son. This is the toughest schedule we have played since we joined the ACC.

You should see some pre-season...

rankings for next year. UGA, Miami are top ten. UM is top 15. Clemson is top 20. UVA is top 25. UCONN is much better than Vandy. VT is same as AU (or better).

I think next year's schedule is more brutal than last years.

I agree

This is going to be TOUGH! Personally, I like tough but to many TOUGH spells 'not easy' and this schedule ain't gonna be easy. UCONN is not a crip game anymore. Read that again. Neither is Dook. Samford should be our only "gimme" game next year. Then where are we? The coaches are going to have to coach hard and the players are going to have to train hard.

"Easy" is losing whatever place it had in TECH football. These games will be fights, struggles and we'll have to earn the victory. Cool. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Gonna be tough.

Cmon yall, UCONN, the only way they win the Big East is if Pitt and WVA quit football...

The way I see it is we got 5 ballgames that we should win regardless: SAMFORD, UCONN, at UNC, at a Riversless NCSU, and DUKE. No excuse for losing any of these...

Then we got the next tier of UVA, VPISU, and at Maryland. All of these games we should have a decent chance of winning. We should win at least one of these...

Then MIAMI and UGAG. Those are gonna be two tough hills to climb...

I'm thinkin we should win at least 6 games during the regular season and lo and behold we could be 7-6 again...

But, it's way too early too tell. So no predictions from me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think when we played an ACC schedule plus ugag, UT, Auburn, and maybe Bama was much tougher. I think this is the residue from Homer's convincing many that beating Wake was more important than beating ugag. Obviously priorities must still be worked on. When we start thinking any game against a N.C. school should be tough, not that I would ever take one for granted like many did our BB game vs ugag, then we have a long way to go. If we focus building a program on beating Clemson southward the others will take care of themselves. It still amazes me how low our expectations have reached. I think Chan can do it. For GT to play Samford or Uconn ever is a disgrace, to do it in the same year is insanity.

You don't think NC State was a better team than Auburn? I'd put Maryland and Clemson above Tennesee as well...

That is a brutal schedule. One cupcake (Samford), two twinkies (Duke and UNC) a bagel (UConn) and the rest are meat and potatoes friend. I cannot think of any teams that play a top 25 team every week.

UConn is a pretty good team with a very good coach. UNC could be a good team if they learn to play some defense (and that much offense always makes them dangerous).

NC State is probably the biggest of the question mark teams out there with Rivers leaving. And, I guess Clemson needs more than one good season to be considered a perenial contender.

I basically agree with lawbees assessment.

Wait, we don't play Auburn anymore???? I love beating them, esp. cuz one of my best friends is a diehard Auby fan.

I hope he has a plan

and a BIG part of that is getting an offense that scores more than 19 pts a game because if we don't we WILL NOT have a winning record. No way,no how.
This is starting to look like GOL's teams-he was suppose to be a def specialist and his DEF STUNK usually.CG supposedly knows offense but they are less than adequate.hmmmmmm

Less than adequate from what standpoint? Because he doesn't score enough points to make you happy? Less than adequate sounds like we lost more games than we won last year.

This is such a tired argument: we don't score enough points. If you score enough to win the game, you still win right?

And before you tell me about Clemson and Duke games as your case in point, tell me if 17 points was enough to beat Auburn and if 7 pts was enough to beat Maryland.

AlaGold,

If you don't like it here, pick an Alabama team and pull for them.

I'm tired of your attitude on this board.

Offense

52 points in a bowl game with a 300+ yard rushing performance from one of your backs is nothing to scoff at.

Re: Offense

To be fair, though, the Humanitarian bowl wasn't really a complicated game plan - that was PJ's doing, not Gailey's, really. That said, obviously Gailey deserves some credit for PJ, but that game wasn't an example of gameplan as much as execution.

Though I think if we hadn't thrown interceptions when in the red zone, overthrown on our deep passes, stuff like that, we would have scored much more. Reggie's arm still needs some developing, and we've got some others in the wing this year - last year we didn't really have a passing quarterback - mistakes killed us season-long.

Re: Offense

We've only got 4 rough games, from what I can tell. (UGA, MIAMI, VT, maybe UVA).

I feel we can beat all the others:

Samford? come on
Connecticut...seriously
beat UNC, NCSTATE, Maryland last year
Duke will not beat us again
Clemson is a toss up, as their program is on the rise, I think

I'm thinking a good 8 wins.....10 if we beat UVA and VT...they can definitely be beaten

VT should not be included with the others.

Maryland and Clemson should have better teams. VT was gutted by graduation and should be on the level of NCState.
