Has he ever stated what his on the field or court goals are?

If he thinks anything will change, from attracting more fans and selling more tickets, by just being competitive in the ACC Coastal then nothing will really change.

And it may well be that many “younger” fans don’t think beating ugag is important. Keep telling yourself that. The abyss has not been discovered that will stop how far GT will fall if things continue as they have.

I think everyone's goals are the same: to win every game in every sport. He did actually say that "winning" is the first of the GTAA's goals or vision statements or whatever.

But FWIW the audience at this event is a very old crowd, no younger fans. Everybody there was united in the centrality of beating UGA. Stansbury gets that and endorses it.

I really wish the GTAA will get to the day that it has a bold clear big vision for a complete future overhaul of BDS. Engineered from the ground up for great seating, noise capture, and an immersive experience. But to do so requires a complete rebuild and doing something with (demolishing and finding space elsewhere or within the scope of the rebuild) Edge, Wardlaw, BMSSC, Lyman, and Emerson. The room is there to do all that in the rectangle between Power Plant Dr, Bobby Dodd Way, and Techwood Dr. But I don't suppose anybody has a spare $500 million laying around do you? And if you do, why does the GTAA still walk around carrying $225m+ in bond debt to the tune of a higher interest payment than scholarship disbursement payment (OUCH!).

I do, but the way I have my bank account set up I have a checking and savings and I have to wait 2 days to move it from my savings. I don't think it's gonna go through.

I am a little concerned about the yaya about capex spending when we have such an overwhelming debt situation. Interest rates are going up. I wonder what our average interest rate is now.

Check the link I provided above. It'll say right there in the offering statement. And I'm not sure our debt situation is overwhelming, exactly. 13% of budget is paying for our housing. How's that compare to the average (prudent) homeowner's mortgage burden. Genuinely don't know.

Which post number for the link?

— Uniforms and shoes are a top-three recruiting item. Reality is that people really, really care about this stuff. And we've been recruiting with one arm behind our back for years. The new Adidas deal helps level the playing field in that regard.
Kind of sad that recruits care so much about something so shallow and ultimately meaningless when deciding where they're going to spend the next 3-5 years of their life.

But, that's just the unfortunate reality I guess.

Great post, thanks.

This, and especially because it's more than just 3-5 years they'll spend on a place if they do it right.

That's a fair perspective. But actually Stansbury pointed out that at Oregon St he used to visit the sponsoring manufacturer's company store (Nike, I assume?). He said you'd see millionaire professional athletes in that store with shopping carts full of shoes and apparel because they could get it at a discount. The point was not that millionaires are cheap, but that it isn't just teenagers who care about fashion. A lot of successful grown-ups do, too. Hey, fashion is one of the ways we communicate with others — and GT was not communicating to recruits that it took football seriously with Russell.

This reminds me of an anecdote. Do you know why the Arizona Cardinals football team is called the Cardinals? The Cardinals are actually the oldest still-operating pro football team in the country, and they were originally based in Chicago. In those days (pre WWI), pro football was nothing and college football was the big draw. And also at that time Univ. of Chicago was a Big Ten power, coached by the legendary Amos Alonzo Stagg. Anyhow, the Maroons (U of C) donated their used jerseys to the poor pro club, which took their name as the Cardinals because the faded maroon uniforms looked like a pale red.

The point is... do we older staid sensible folks really think uniforms don't matter? Imagine if GT decided to save a few bucks by getting used uniforms from another program with similar colors? It would just tell the world that football was a really low priority. The issue with Adidas over Russell is the same thing, just further up the margin.

Excellent post! Lots that can be put up for debate. First one I have is: T.S. says that 90% of the GTAA comes from football, but coaches are worried about over scheduling ( read: need to schedule more cupcakes). Further stating that the football schedule needs more breathers & warm ups! Lot of competition in Atlanta for peoples entertainment dollars, adding more FCS teams to the ones we have scheduled will not attract fans! How about trying to play big time teams that folks would really like to see.
