I would think that the payout for the Champions League would encourage teams to play their best:

EPL can't even touch that.

Sidenote: Interesting list of top-10 highest-paying sporting events in the world:

Ferguson is notorious with playing around with his squad, so you will always see couple changes, but it's not the full squad change like the one Ferguson did last year for a Champions League game. Champions League is probably the top goal for Manchester United, I can guarantee you they have been trying their best.

And yes, winner is the best club. Manchester United fell way behind Real Madrid and Barcelona this year, and IMO other teams too. We will see soon.

I agree that they will both focus in the premier league now, but other clubs didn't really have a chance at this point anyway. :)

Winning the champs league is 1b to winning the world cup 1a

considering the last place premiership team got 39.1 million from TV deals alone and the champions league reps all got 55-61 in tv contract money....Id have to say...Staying competetive in the premiership is just as financially important as winning the champions league...and those $$ have increased this year-------
clubs in the EPL on avg get 30million for EPL games--the different in the worse place finished EXTRA money for TV appearances is less than 6 million in comparison to the the finalist of the champs league who gets 13..and that 13 isn't totally from Champs league performances--it is also from pre season tours..

they say the most profitable game is the promotion game between the championship and the premiership............

And i am pretty sure I know exactly how the champions league works....Format/structure....all of it.....I do know the lesser known clubs will make runs early--throw in all their chips..and the big clubs will hold their studs for when they are needed....If you can't see that-even after Ive provided the link for every LINE UP and roster in EVERY game...then I can't continue this argument.

Yeah actually many players don't care so much for the world cup.

Blazer rank the following 1-10 for a professional in Europe. 10 being most important.

Domestic league
Domestic cup tournament
European club cups
- uefa champs league
- Europa league
Euro cup
World cup

For top clubs winning the Champions League is more important than the domestic league.

Is this what you are contesting?

If that was true----FC BASEL wouldnt have beaten Manchester United....Villareal wouldnt be winless.......Manchester city wouldnt be home...---- Balotelli didn't play a minute until the last 2 matches when their backs against the wall.
