I'm sure most of you are on to Clemson now...but I'm just getting over my hangover(football saturday + nascar sunday = way too much beer)
My thoughts, in no particular order: -Some people are worried that we didn't blow them out worse...if you look at the box score, the game was pretty much a blowout. -Our starters scored 31 points in 2 quarters...this is good -Our passing efficiency was over 50%, that's nice to see -The majority of JSU's points came in garbage time -JSU's backup QB performed pretty well, it seems that we are still somewhat susceptible to "dink and dunk" offenses(see UVA from last year) -335 rushing yards, 6.7 YPC, again w/ only 2 quarters of starter play -I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to line play, but the OL appeared to be better, and the DL had the dropoff we were all expecting. -Thank GOD for a punt returner! -Everything we ran on both sides of the ball was extremely vanilla, I'm not putting a ton of stock into the negatives of this game. -Biggest negatives for me were that our kicking game and fumbling problem appear to remain |

I'm concerned the FG kicking may cause us a loss this year. One thing for sure - we'll try more 4th down conversions because of it. We've all expressed our concern about dropping the ball. This offense lends itself to more fumbles particularly in bad weather. Josh tends to overthrow often down the middle. Perhaps he should do a few pushups in the huddle when a pass is called. :D |

The starters played into the 4th quarter with the exception of Dwyer. Once it got to 17-0 things got sloppy. The 2nd and 3rd quarters weren't pretty.

I think the 4th quarter was the only quarter where the starters were not in. I would have liked to have seen at least ONE score in the third period if not 2. I was expecting that because usually PJ makes adjustments at the half and we see results in the third quarter... guess I'm just greedy. :)

As for the passing efficiency, I think it was better than the numbers showed.
Officially Nesbitt was 6-11 with 2 TDs, but I think he should have been about 9-11 with 3 TDs. Thomas dropped one that hit him right in the hands. Allen dropped one across the middle that would have easily been a touchdown. (That one was slightly overthrown but still catchable). Wright also dropped one that could have been caught (again slightly overthrown).

I think we played like crap though. The turnovers are huge, but that wasn't our only problem. Keep in mind that 14 of those first half points came on the first play and the punt return near the end of the half. Everything in between wasn't awful but wasn't great either. JN did pass better though, and I agree with the poster that his percentage would be better if the receivers caught the ball. I'm interested in seeing how f$u does against Jax St., but I think we'll know a lot more about ourselves by then b/c we have clem thursday. |

Q3 was putrid for offense, I think I saw that we had 22 net yards that quarter!! Vanilla or not, that was not too good.

I'd like to see our pass catchers, particularly the A-backs get softer hands. Nesbitt looked really good. Also, I'd like to see what Stephen Hill can do with the ball in his hands.
