He doesn't sound like a dumbass, he's just speaking to the reporters like he'd speak to his friends, and they're transliterating it onto the paper. If you speak to anybody in real life, they don't sound quite as well schooled as they do when they have a few minutes to write and proof read.

Really, you're gonna criticize someone speaking sports slang on a sports message board? Bay Bay is from middle/south GA. It has nothing to do with IQ or the ability to write a term paper. Everybody down here talks like that in casual conversation ... unless someone is just trying to act like they're better than everybody else ... kinda like you just did.

Sorry to come on harsh, but it's a pet peeve of mine when someone criticizes someone's dialect. Now if it was on an assignment, that would be different (Leonard Pope).
