My wife and I made the drive from Carolina to Atlanta for last night's game. Her first Tech basketball game was the thriller with UVA in '84. Last night she said it made her want to cry.
Indeed this team goes back to the Horton, Cole, Neal, Goza, Thomas team for absolute futility. But, even that team had more fun. They were awful, but they played hard with a chip on their shoulders. They made life miserable for their opponents. Whisper the name "Lee Goza" to Ralph Sampson today and you better duck.
Trying to get this team to play well is impossible. They play hard in a strangely passive sort of way. So, my idea is to get them to have fun. Let it all hang out. Get that chip on your shoulder. Be very aggressive. Smile a lot.
I commented in the past several seasons that Hewitt's last teams played with very little passion; they didn't sem to enjoy basketball. The starting point on this turnaround is to make basketball fun again. The fans need to realize this, too.
