This was a huuuuuge pickup for GT and PH. Hopefully this will start a snowball and we also get Sampson and Taylor...would be a great class.

Good pick up. Hopefully it helps us build a little momentum. Some pretty good links to articles/threads here: http://vivaneverland.blogspot.com/2007/10/welcome-to-institute-iman-shumpert.html

I hate to be a downer here, but why are we excited about getting another potential 1 and done? We need to draft kids that are going to stay for 4 years and promote a cycle of cohesive teams.

I admit my ignorance as far as the business of college basketball goes, but it seems to me the strategy to adopt is one of grabbing solid role players that are diamonds in the rough. IMHO, if you get enough of these, a reasonable percentage are bound to develop star qualities a la Mark Price.

Don't get me wrong, this recruiting someone like Iman Shumpert has an upside, but there is an equal down-side to the coin, too, of which I am tired.

blah blah blah.

Is the "blah blah blah" part kind of like "yadda yadda yaddaing" over Ohio State last year?

blah blah blah.

So give me just one example of a top program who recruits like that.

Yeah, ncjacket, this is why I typed "blah, blah, blah". It was kind of an idle whine. I had the impression that Duke recruited like this, but then they have hurt by the NBA through Deng, Brand, etc. I did have Duke in mind because it seems as though they have a lot less people go early. Prove me wrong, if need be. I guess if you have the reputation of a UNC or a Duke you can keep these players longer. You can actually have them on your team and not play them their freshman year.

Answer to your post, I have no examples.

We have 3 seniors. Morrow, Smith and (assuming academic issues get worked out) Dickey. Do you want 5 seniors at all times ? Nobody could have anticipated with 100% accuracy Young and Crit both leaving, I fault Hewitt for somethings but his recruiting is the least of his problems. Shumpert will be able to contribute and simply signing an elite player will get our program additional press. Dook and UNC all have turnover and deal with it, the difference is they recruit 2-3 Hamburgers a year -- we are lucky if we get 1 every 2-3 years. Dook has EIGHT Hamburgers on the roster, 3 are incoming freshman, that should be illegal.
